as a manager, when I say that I'd rather lose a softball game than that my players either become injured or don't have a good time, I could not be more serious.

I'm watching Police Story. hooker Tina Louise says to copper James Farentino, "you're not all cop, are you?" he tells her, "nobody's all anything." I like that.

11–7 part deux

our team had a good season. with an 11–7 record, we finished in 5th place, out of 15 teams—and were the 5th-to-last team to exit the playoffs. math is so funny.

taking a Stand

so, at the library the other day, I picked up—just barely picked up—a copy of Stephen King's The Stand: the thing weighs 4 lbs. this is why God invented Kindle.

softball lesson #1

one thing I learned this year is that as a manager it's not always easy to implement rules—such as the Substitutes Rule—that you enact as a league commissioner.

I often wondered about folks whom I'd see smoking at 9 AM (isn't that kind of early for a puff, friend?), until I started to do the same thing myself. ah, life!
